What is SEO
SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is a term used to describe how effective your website is at communicating with search engines. If your website communicates well with search engines (like Google) – then you are more likely to rank high for the key terms you want to be found for!

How do I improve my website’s SEO

The best way to improve your SEO is to understand the difference between GOOD SEO and POOR SEO.

What is poor SEO

Poor SEO comes from a website which search engines have a hard time reading or understanding, or if the website is so generic/empty that search engines have no idea what to rank you for.

Good SEO therefore is a website that communicates well with search engines, the website is full of the content and information that you want your visitors to know about you and your business.

Clients call on a daily basis asking questions such as “Why am I not showing up on Google for Toronto real estate?” or “Why am I not showing up for Oakville Realtor” – the answer to this question is simple:

Search engines rank your website based on the content within the website. Search engines can’t read minds – they can read words. The content on your website dictates where and what you will rank for. If you have little-to-no relevant content, your website is simply not communicating its purpose.

Let me elaborate with an example:

You get a brand new website and your goal for the website is to get some business from potential buyers and sellers from MISSISSAUGA.

To accomplish this goal, you want to be found on Google when someone types “MISSISSAUGA REAL ESTATE” or “MISSISSAUGA REALTORS” or “MISSISSAUGA LISTINGS” etc..

The next step is to take your currently generic website – and begin to build upon it with all the relevant content regarding Mississauga Real Estate. The more content you add related to Mississauga Real Estate, the better you are communicating with search engines your websites purpose and value.

This can include adding a page all about the schools in Mississauga, followed by another page dedicated to all the condo developments in Mississauga, followed by a blog where you provide weekly tips on maintaining and/or staging your Mississauga home etc..

Empires aren’t built in a day, and neither is your website. SEO is a process – the more you work on it, the more you will drive traffic to your website.
